SAM Head of Communications Katy McDowall Named 2024 Texas Society of Association Executives Rising Lone Star

Katy McDowall, Head of Communications and Senior Communications Manager at Strategic Association Management (SAM), has been named a 2024 Texas Society of Association Executives (TSAE) Rising Lone Star.

The Rising Lone Stars Program recognizes emerging association leaders in Texas who exhibit characteristics that demonstrate continued success and leadership skills, and who plan to continue in roles that aid the future of the association and nonprofit community. Judges consider the individual’s employment history in association management, achievements, honors, and contributions.

In her role at SAM, Katy manages the team of communications professionals who support the more than 25 associations SAM serves. She leads the team in developing and implementing processes, strategies and services that meet partners’ communications and marketing needs. She also serves as communications manager for three unique statewide associations, developing effective and brand-affirming communications and marketing initiatives tailored to their missions, members and goals.

“Katy is a talented leader and association professional,” said JJ Colburn, CAE, co-CEO at Strategic Association Management. “Her dedication and skills make a huge impact on SAM and the partners we serve. We’re so excited for the broader association community to celebrate her talent.”

Katy and fellow 2024 Rising Lone Stars Program participants will be celebrated on the main stage at TSAE’s New Ideas annual conference, Sept. 15–17 in The Woodlands, Texas.
