Abby Mund, CMP

Director of Meetings and Events

Abby Mund, CMP, serves as Director of Meetings and Events at SAM. In this position, Abby oversees the planning and execution of conferences and other meetings, working directly with partner organizations to achieve strategic goals. Abby's ability to handle unexpected challenges—such as successfully relocating an exhibit hall location within six weeks of a conference due to a natural disaster—has proven invaluable in her role at SAM.

Abby joined SAM in 2023, bringing almost a decade of association experience and more than 15 years of meeting planning experience to her role. Prior to joining SAM, Abby was founder and CEO of AM Planning, a prominent Texas-based firm in the meeting- and event-planning industry. During her tenure, Abby planned and executed large-scale conferences with more than 12,000 attendees. She also successfully transitioned in-person events to an online format while also surpassing previous attendance records, allowing her client organizations to serve more members than ever before.

Abby earned her bachelor's degree in agricultural and applied economics and her master's degree in agricultural communications, both from Texas Tech University. She earned her Certified Meeting Planner (CMP) designation in 2017. She has served in leadership roles with the Texas Society of Association Executives (TSAE) as a member of the New Ideas Task Force and the Women's Summit Task Force.

Abby grew up in Midlothian, Texas, south of the Dallas-Fort Worth area. She returned to the area after completing her teaching certificate to teach high school agriculture science, before moving to the Hill Country in 2014.

My workplace superpower is... seeing the end goal and working backward to get there quickly.

What inspires me about working with associations: Associations at their core were created to bring people together to share ideas, grow, pool resources around a common interest, and make an impact. I believe in the power of associations. I want to serve well by helping associations respond to the quickening pace of business and how they deliver value to their members. It excites me to plan events that grow members at such a deep level that it spills over and raises the ships in all areas of their lives. They walk away knowing that they can’t live without their association. As Margaret Mead said, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has."

My unique skills or passions: Education, investing in people, gathering, the power of connection, creation of processes, business, and marketing.

Favorite SAM core value: Champion growth. Although growth can be scary—as it usually comes from hardship, uncertainty, or being uncomfortable—I believe it is our human nature to crave it. More than that, I believe that personal growth is the path to progress. When we grow we can consider new perspectives, try new methods, learn, and strive for what was previously unachievable. That growth is the driving factor behind someone’s decision to join an association or attend an event. It thrills me to be able to work to provide experiences that grow members, associations, and impact.
